Privacy and Cookie Policy

This is an English translation for convenience; the Turkish version prevails.

This policy explains what information we collect on ethosshoes.com and when, which cookies we use and how you can manage your preferences. The legal notice on purposes, legal grounds, transfers, retention periods and your rights is set out on the KVKK Privacy Notice page; this policy should be read together with it.

Who we are

ethosshoes.com is operated under the ETHOS brand by “ethosshoes”, a sole proprietorship owned by Yalım Kartal. Yalım Kartal is the data controller for your personal data.

What information we collect and when

  • When you browse the site: cookies necessary for the site to work are used; your IP address and browser information are processed by our platform provider for security purposes. Analytics and marketing cookies are used only if you allow them.
  • When you place an order: at checkout we collect your first and last name, email address, phone number, and delivery and billing address. Your payment is taken through iyzico's secure payment system with 3D Secure; your card details never reach us and are not stored by us.
  • If you create a customer account: your login details, saved addresses and order history are stored. You do not need an account to shop.
  • If you subscribe to the newsletter: we collect your email address and consent record (see the Newsletter section below).
  • If you use the contact form or write to us: your name, email address, phone number if you share it, and your message are used to respond to your request and to protect our legal rights relating to that correspondence.
  • If you message us on Instagram: the conversation takes place on Instagram (Meta) and is also subject to Meta's own privacy terms. Our site only links to Instagram; no Instagram content is embedded on the site and no Instagram cookies are placed.

This information is shared with service providers such as Shopify (e-commerce platform), iyzico (payments), our partner carrier (delivery) and Google Workspace (email), only to the extent the relevant service requires. Shopify's and Google's servers are located abroad. We do not sell your personal data. The full list of recipients and the purposes of transfer are set out on the KVKK Privacy Notice page.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files saved in your browser when you visit a site. Our site uses the cookies of our platform provider Shopify and a local storage entry that remembers your cookie choice. Shopify's cookies are first-party cookies placed by Shopify on the ethosshoes.com domain. We do not use Google Analytics, the Meta (Facebook/Instagram) pixel or any other third-party advertising or tracking tool.

Strictly necessary cookies (no consent required)

These are needed for the cart, session, checkout steps and security to work and to remember your cookie choice. Because the site cannot work properly without them, they do not depend on your consent. If you block them in your browser, the cart and checkout may not work.

  • _shopify_essential: session, checkout and security information. Duration: 1 year.
  • cart: the products in your cart. Duration: 2 weeks.
  • cart_currency: opening a new cart in the correct currency after an order. Duration: 2 weeks.
  • localization: language and country setting. Duration: 1 year.
  • discount_code: carrying a discount code received via a link to checkout. Duration: session.
  • _shopify_test: checking whether your browser supports cookies. Duration: 1 minute.
  • _tracking_consent: passing your cookie choice to Shopify and storing it. Duration: 1 year.
  • ethos_cookie_consent (browser local storage): remembering your cookie choice. Duration: 12 months; when it expires, you are asked again.

Analytics cookies (only with your consent)

  • _shopify_analytics: measuring site usage, such as number of visits, pages viewed and sales statistics. Duration: 1 year.

Marketing cookies (only with your consent)

  • _shopify_marketing: marketing and campaign measurement, for example which link or campaign a visit came from. Duration: 1 year.

Shopify may update cookie names and durations from time to time; for the current list, see Shopify's cookie page. During payment, the iyzico and 3D Secure pages of your bank that you are redirected to may use their own cookies; these are subject to those organisations' policies.

How to change your cookie choice

On your first visit, the cookie banner offers “Accept” and “Decline” on an equal footing. With “Accept” you also allow Shopify's analytics and marketing cookies in addition to the strictly necessary cookies. If you decline, only strictly necessary cookies are used and you can continue shopping. Your choice is stored for 12 months; when this period ends, the banner asks you again. You can change your choice or withdraw your consent at any time by reopening the banner via the “Cookie Preferences” link at the bottom of the page. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Withdrawing your consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

Newsletter and commercial electronic messages

  • Subscribing to the newsletter is optional and is not a condition of purchase. The email marketing consent box at checkout is never pre-ticked.
  • For the newsletter we collect only your email address. If you subscribe, we will send you emails about new products, collections and offers once we begin sending the newsletter. When sending begins, we will confirm by email that we have received your consent, together with the option to decline.
  • You can withdraw your consent at any time, free of charge and without giving a reason, using the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of each email or by writing to info@ethosshoes.com. Your request is applied within 3 business days at the latest.
  • Once we begin sending commercial electronic messages, your consent will be registered in the Message Management System (İYS) as required by law; from then on you can also view and withdraw your consents at www.iys.org.tr.
  • Transactional messages such as order confirmation, shipping and return notifications are sent regardless of your newsletter subscription and contain no promotional content.

Security

The site and checkout run over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Your card details are processed by iyzico with 3D Secure; they never reach us and are not stored by us. Only people who need access for their work can access your personal data, and we require our service providers to take appropriate security measures. Since no internet transmission is completely risk-free, we recommend that you do not share your account details with anyone. If a data breach occurs, we will notify the Personal Data Protection Board and the affected persons as required by law.

Children

Our site is not intended for persons under 18. If you are under 18, you need the permission of your parent or guardian before placing an order, creating an account or subscribing to the newsletter. If you believe your child's data has been processed without your permission, please write to us; we will delete the records that we are not legally required to keep.

Changes

We may update this policy when our practices on the site or the law change. The current version is always published on this page; where necessary, we will also announce important changes on the site or by email.
